West Cork Rally - March 2017
There are loads of automotive events in Ireland, as soon as the winter is loosening it's cold grip, cars come out to play. One of these events is the West Cork Rally.
Unfortunately, the Carlads team didn't make it to WCR, but our friend from KON Photography was gracious enough to not only send us some images, but also write a short text about his experience there.
A Mk2 Escort at full chat is a sound you don't easily forget. The drama and pantomime from the power slides around anything half resembling a corner, and that near perfect balance makes the Mk2 one of the legendary rally cars out there. When I found myself leaning over barriers to snap the photos below, I had absolute trust in the escorts flying around the hairpin bend toward me. Even when they were tail happy and pointed dead at me, I had complete faith. Then the juniors arrived in their clapped out 6th gen Civics, I made a few uncertain jumps back as they caught traction on the gravel exiting the bend, lurching straight at me. Maybe this trust has something to do with how, I suspect, I am secretly a Ford man. We'll see in the next few weeks if I'll be converted.
